Provost appoints new Interim Dean for the College of Education  
 

Interim Provost and Executive Vice President, Douglas Wartzok, has announced the appointment of Dr. Marie McDemmond as Interim Dean of the College of Education.  Dr. McDemmond is President Emeritus of Norfolk State University where she served as president from 1997 to 2006.  She has South Florida roots having served as Vice President for Finance, CFO and Chief Operating Officer of Florida Atlantic University from 1988 to 1997.

She has been president of the Council of Minority Educators of Massachusetts’ Public Colleges and Universities, the Florida Association of Women in Education, and the Southern Association of College and University Business Officers where she was the first African American woman to head any of the National Association of Colleges and University Business Officers regions.  She was also appointed by President Bush to the President’s Board of Advisors on Historically Black Colleges and Universities.

Dr. McDemmond will serve as Interim Dean this year while a national search recommences for a permanent dean.
