The Office of Field Experiences
The Office of Field Experiences in the College of Education coordinates the placement of all students in their field experience, student teaching, and counseling practicum/internship posts. Students are encouraged to submit all necessary paperwork as early as possible to ensure a seamless placement process.

Field Experience
In order to ensure that the College of Education complies with the regulations of the hosting districts and private schools, all public and private placements must be arranged through the Office of Field Experiences.
To obtain a placement, students should bring a copy of their schedule and clearance card to the Office of Field Experiences in ZEB 220, Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Students who are not on the University Park campus during these times should call (305) 348-2082 to make alternate arrangements.
Beginning Spring 2004, the following policies are in effect:

All public and private placement arrangements must be arranged through the Office of Field Experiences;

All placement requests must be arranged before the mandatory school Orientation (usually the second Friday of the semester);

Students must attend Orientation to comply with district and building policies as set forth by the building administrator;

Students must comply with the Florida Code of Ethics and the Principles of Professional Conduct of the Education Profession in Florida.

STUDENT TEACHING/COUNSELING INTERNSHIP
APPLICATION PROCEDURES
Fall Placement (All majors except Art, English, Math &, Social Studies)
First week of the Spring semester – application registration and information sheet available
February 1 – online registration completed
March 1 – advisor-approved original and copies submitted (MUST be FULLY Admitted to COE).

STEP ONE: INITIAL REGISTRATION
- Come to ZEB 220…You will be registered online & provided with necessary documentation.
- Sign-up for a mandatory writing seminar in ZEB 220 before February 1st for Fall / June 1st for
Spring.
- Complete the online Plagiarism Tutorial before attending the seminar. Please go to: http://coeweb.fiu.edu/plagiarism. Take the quiz, score at least 80%, print copy of test results, and bring a copy to the seminar on the scheduled date.
- Register in ZEB 220 for access to the Online Application. A staff member from the Office of Field Experiences will register you and provide:
- a password that is necessary to complete the online application
- the “Application Procedures” instruction sheet

STEP TWO: ONLINE APPLICATION
Register:
- Go to http://education.fiu.edu/. Click on “Current Students”. Scroll down to “Field Experience”. Read instructions and scroll down to “Click here to continue an existing application”.
- Enter your Panther ID and password . Click on “Login”.
- Respond to the prompts for background information by selecting from the choices provided or typing in responses (make sure to use correct capitalization when typing proper nouns).
- You can click on “save & come back”, leave the site and return to complete online application.
- When your information is complete, click on “final submission”. A window will appear asking “Would you like to submit the application?” click on “OK”. Another window will appear stating click on “report” and print the online application before leaving the site. If you do not print now, you will not be able to do so later.
- This becomes your application (1 page). If a problem occurs contact the office immediately (305) 348-2082.

STEP THREE: ADDITIONAL PROCEDURES
Schedule an Appointment with Faculty Advisor:
Contact your departmental advisor immediately to schedule an appointment to review your packet during the month of February for Fall internship, or June for Spring internship.
Bring the following to your appointment:
- Online application (one page)
- SASS (undergraduate students) or unofficial transcript (graduate students) from the Advising Center in ZEB 220
- Teacher Education Professional Writing Sample (one page)
Obtain Fingerprint Clearance:
- If you have been fingerprinted and cleared in the school district in which you are requesting placement, and your clearance is current, nothing else is needed on your part at this time.
- If you have NOT been fingerprinted and cleared in the school district in which you are requesting placement, you need to make the necessary arrangements immediately.
Obtain an Accurate SASS/Unofficial Transcript:
- If you are an undergraduate student, determine the accurate catalog year of your admission to the College of Education, and go to the COE Advising Center, ZEB 220, to receive a correct copy of your SASS.
- If you are a graduate student, print a copy of your Unofficial Transcript to attach to your application.
Teacher Education Professional Writing Sample:
Write a one page essay: (Essay may be reviewed for plagiarism by the Turnitin program.)
- Five (5) paragraph essay including an obvious introduction, body and conclusion, clearly stating a personal educational belief and 3 ways you will implement that belief during your internship. This should be based on the COE Conceptual Framework
- Maximum length: one full page (one side)
- Type in “Arial” or comparable font; single or double spaced
- Font must be 11 or 12 point; black ink on plain white paper
- Accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation
- Standard professional English

STEP FOUR: SUBMISSION PROCESS
Original Packet (Assemble in this order):
- Original application
- SASS (undergraduate students) or unofficial transcript (graduate students) from the Advising Center in ZEB 220
- Writing Sample (one page)
- Original (purple) writing center seminar “Certificate of Completion”
Four (4) Additional Packets:
- Copy of Application
- Copy of SASS
- Copy of Writing Sample
DO NOT SCAN – Copies must be clear & clean!
Submit to ZEB 220 by Internship Semester Due Date (Feb. 15 – March 1st for Fall /
June 15 - July 1st for Spring):
- the Original Packet And Two (2) copies to ZEB 220 (total 3 sets)
- Keep one (1) copy for your records
- Give one (1) copy to your advisor for his/her records
- Bring your Security Clearance card at the time of application submission
