Application Process
Applications to the Master’s and Specialists programs are initially processed within the Graduate Admissions Office, a division of the University Graduate School (UGS). The Graduate Admissions Office is responsible for collecting transcripts, GRE test scores (if required) and the application fee. Any other supporting documentation that may be required (i.e. letters of recommendation, resume, and proof of teacher certification) is processed by the College of Education.
Once the application and supporting documents are processes by the Graduate Admissions Office, the application and supporting documents are sent electronically to the corresponding academic department within the College of Education for final review. All admissions decisions are made by College of Education program leaders and/or faculty.

To apply for admission into one of the College of Education’s graduate programs, the following items must be completed:
- A completed on-line application: The online application for graduate admission may be found at the UGS website http://gradschool.fiu.edu. Applications must be completed online. At this time there is no hard copy or downloadable version of the graduate application.
- Application Fee: A $30.00, non-refundable, application fee, for each application submitted and payable by check, money order, or credit card (Visa, Master Card, American Express, or Discover) is required. Payment by personal check or money orders must be in U.S. dollars and mailed to:

- Official Transcript/s: Transcripts of all degree granting institutions must be sent directly from each college or university in a sealed envelope to the Graduate Admissions Office.

- Official GRE Test Scores: Certain graduate programs within the College of Education require the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) to be considered for admission. To determine the application requirements specific to your program of choice please click here: COE Graduate Programs Admission Requirements. For those programs that require the GRE, official test scores must be received by the Graduate Admissions Office.

The following items must be sent directly to the College of Education.
- Letters of Recommendation: Depending upon the program, 2 or 3 letters of recommendation are required. The recommendation letters may be from an academic or professional source, or from a volunteer organization. - A Personal Statement: In a 1,000 words or less type-written essay, please explain to the members of the admission committee why you are seeking admission to your program of choice. Explain any personal and professional goals that you plan to achieve with the accomplishment of the degree. Please list any recognitions of achievement that you have received (e.g., licenses, publications, awards). Provide any additional information that you would like considered in the evaluation of the application.
- Résumé: A résumé describing at least the past five years of employment history and significant community, professional, or college extracurricular activities should be provided.
- Proof of residency for in-state applicants: To claim Florida Residency for tuition purposes (in-state tuition), you must provide two (2) of the following documents: voter registration information, driver's license information or vehicle registration information.
- Proof of Teacher Certification: Certain programs require that an applicant be a professionally certified teacher to be considered for admission. A copy of the Professional Educator’s Certificate must be submitted.

Deadlines for Domestic Applicants
The following are preferred deadlines dates for domestic applicants only. Completed applications submitted after the preferred deadlines dates will be evaluated; however, completed applications received on or before the deadline dates will receive priority evaluation.

International Student Application Requirements
In addition to the above application requirements, international applicants must provide:
- Translations: Official transcripts or other documents in a language other than English must be translated by an official translation agency. Translations must be submitted to the Graduate Admissions Office;
- TOEFL or IELTS: The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Testing System (IELTS) exam is required of an applicant from a country where English is not the official language or when an applicant's bachelor's degree is not from an accredited U.S. institution. (Applicants who hold an undergraduate degree from an institution within the United States or other English speaking countries are not required to submit TOEFL/IELTS.) The TOEFL score must reflect a minimum score of 80 on the iBT TOEFL or 550 or higher on the paper-based exam and a minimum score of 213 on the computer-based exam. An overall score of 6.3 is required for the IELTS. Official copies of test scores must be sent to the Graduate Admissions Office.

F.I.U. Immunization Requirements
While not a requirement for admission, as a prerequisite to registration, Florida International University requires all students born after December 31, 1956 to present documented proof of immunity to measles (Rubeola) and German Measles (Rubella). This written document must be signed by a physician (M.D. or D.O.), a nurse practitioner or a registered nurse and must be mailed, sent via fax, or physically brought to University Health Services on either campus at least four weeks prior to registration. Phone calls from your physician are not acceptable.
