Invite urban education eminent
scholars to share their expertise with FIU faculty and
students, public school teachers,
and members of the community. Most of these scholars go
beyond the walls of the university to engage South Florida’s
communities.
Partner with local community centers, such as the Sant
La Haitian Community Center and the Liberty City Learning
Center.
Develop, along with Miami-Dade Public Schools, professional
development schools that serve the African-American community.
Support Center Associates who propose and implement grants
for urban education advocacy and research.
Collaborate with Urban Master’s
Program in recruitment, instruction and evaluation of
students.
Host Urban Education Expo, a major national conference
featuring educators from South Florida and around the country
who have made a real difference in achievement for children
of color.
