Our Activities

Our activities include:

  • Invite urban education eminent scholars to share their expertise with FIU faculty and students, public school teachers, and members of the community. Most of these scholars go beyond the walls of the university to engage South Florida’s communities.

  • Partner with local community centers, such as the Sant La Haitian Community Center and the Liberty City Learning Center.

  • Develop, along with Miami-Dade Public Schools, professional development schools that serve the African-American community.

  • Support Center Associates who propose and implement grants for urban education advocacy and research.

  • Collaborate with Urban Master’s Program in recruitment, instruction and evaluation of students.

  • Host Urban Education Expo, a major national conference featuring educators from South Florida and around the country who have made a real difference in achievement for children of color.
